Next Training Course - Stability and Loading
Island Shipping's seafarer training division, Island Training will be running the 3 Day, MCA Accredited Stability & Loading Course from 26th to 28th May in Wicklow.
The key question to ask is: Can Masters use their vessel’s stability book to calculate the stability condition of their vessel at any time? If not and they are carrying deck cargo, bunkers and/or towing and lifting this could potentially be disastrous. It is our experience that many tug and workboat masters do not have the required level of competence of this subject having completed the current 1 Day MCA Stability Course. So we have developed a 3 day course which is interactive, with regular practical exercises and we make sure that participants leave knowing how to calculate the stability of the vessels they are in command of.
The course facilitator, Frank Jackson is a Master Mariner and formerly a secondary school teacher so he understands the different paces at which people learn.
We encourage participants to bring copies of the stability books of the vessels they work on so that they can apply what they have learnt on the course.
